Voorburg, The Netherlands
In Voorburg, a new freestanding outpatient clinic was built for the Reinier De Graaf Hospital.
Architect: EGM Architecten
Wood type: LDCwood® ThermoWood® Fraké
Durability class: Class 2
Year: 2022
Owing to the high archaeological value of the site, the clinic was built on the existing foundation of a former nurses’ residence, now demolished. This gives the building a “floating” look, which is enhanced by the white horizontal lines. Vertical slats in LDCwood® ThermoWood® Fraké were combined in different thicknesses, widths and lengths to enhance the architectural style.
The choice of ThermoWood® Fraké guarantees a product virtually free of knots. Fraké is quarter-sawn to achieve a 100% vertical grain. As a result, the thermally modified fraké remains highly dimensionally stable and durable, even in extreme weather conditions.
